This house is ideal for "getting away from it all" and will delight guests looking for a quiet location with miles of sandy beach and ocean directly in front of the house.

Abaco Bahamas

Abaco is a short 35 minute flight from Florida and is known for turquoise water and white sandy beaches.  Flights are regularly scheduled from West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami to Marsh Harbour.  Rental cars are available and highly recommended for exploring the island.  Barefoot Sands is located in Casuarina Point about 20 minutes south of Marsh Harbour.

Rebuilding in Abaco has progressed quickly over the last year in recovery from Hurricane Dorian.  Several restaurants, grocery stores, fishing outfitters and liquor stores are all back open.  More continue to open each week but Abaco is ready for visitors!

Casuarina Point

Casuarina Point is made up of a combination of local residents and vacation homes.  The beach is a little over a mile long and never crowded.  The water remains very shallow and calm near the shore from the reefs that keep large waves from reaching the shore.  At low tide, a sandbar appears near the house that provides additional beach and a fun walking adventure.  Next to this sandbar is a channel where you can swim, snorkel and fish.

Fishermen from around the world come to Abaco to catch bonefish.  The flats near the house provide an excellent fly-fishing environment. If you are interested, we can provide information on hiring a guide for bone fishing (in fact, one of the best lives right next door).  If you would rather go deep sea fishing, there are guides nearby to take you offshore for tuna, wahoo, sailfish and even marlin.  You don't have to go far...6 miles from the house the water is about 3,000 feet deep.

Disclaimer: If you are looking for a bustling nightlife, this may not be the vacation for you.  This is a place to relax, enjoying the sand, sun and water with family and friends.  As I have told others that have traveled with us to Abaco, you need to like beautiful turquoise water, white sandy beaches and your choice of beverage (and maybe a good book or two).  For us, this is truly our happy place!

Rental Skiff now available!

15 foot Carolina Skiff with 25hp outboard motor and electric start.  This small skiff will allow you to explore the shallow waters near the house to snorkel, fish and explore some small islands.  Please let us know if you are interested in renting the skiff during your stay.

ABOUT US

We are Jack and Tonya Sosebee.  We have two grown sons, Nathan and Evan.  While our full time home is in Texas, we travel to Abaco as often as we can get away.  We first came to Casuarina in 2010 as a high school graduation trip for Nathan.  We rented a house on this same stretch of beach and have been coming back at least annually ever since.  It didn't take us long before we knew we wanted to have a home on this wonderful island.  The Bahamians are some of the most welcoming people we've encountered while vacationing.  We looked for the perfect property for about 4 years before this lot was available for purchase.  An international build is not for the faint (or impatient) of heart!  It took nearly 2 years from purchasing the lot to completing our dream home.  We plan to spend as much time as possible at Barefoot Sands and will retire here at some point.  Until then, we want to share our love of the area, culture and people with others. We hope you love it as much as we do.  Be sure to check out our blog!
